Newsletter March 2020

Our community, along with the rest of the World is facing difficult times. We’re told one way of removing the feeling of helplessness is to take control of something you really care about. For many of us, community football, is one of those things.

Although insignificant at first sight when viewed against the troubles we’re all facing, the messages of support the Club received recently have spoken volumes around how important ‘football for all’ can be. We’re immensely proud of this Club and its 1200 young players. We have grown to become Scotland’s largest youth football club through the support of families and dedication on a group of passionate volunteers. So, as we all face extended time at home, I for one will be getting the football out in the garden (or hall!). I’ll be keeping in touch with my friends at the Club and I’d encourage you to use our Club channels to do the same. I’ll also be working with our Committee to develop plans to extend our unique facilities even further to ensure GSC is here, stronger than ever, when the ‘real’ ball comes back out! More details on our plans will follow on soon.

In the meantime, we’ll do everything we can to keep GSC active and engaged. You’ll find below the first in a series of ‘Skill Challenges’ we’ll launching today. Please encourage your kids to replicate these and share with us. Our great team of coaches will keep these updated including the soon-to-be-launched ‘GSC KEEPIE-UPPIE CHALLENGE’. We are really keen to give our Festival every chance of happening, so have moved the dates back into August. All detail on this is below including films from our very own Martin ‘Jacky’ Jack and Charlie Fee from our 2009 squad talking about why this Festival of Football is so important.

We have something very special at this Club. Thousands of kids a year get the chance to play football irrespective of their ability and united with a love for the game. It can only happen with your support and we all really appreciate this, especially during difficult times.I will send regular updates during this ‘down time’ and please feel free to contact the Club directly via

Skills Challenge
Team football maybe cancelled but at Giffnock Soccer Centre we want to challenge our players and the wider football family to keep active! We will be setting a weekly skill challenge so that everyone at all ages/abilities has something to work on whilst we all social distance safely. Our very own Chelsie has set the first one below. Send in your efforts with the Hashtag #GSCFamily and we will share our favourites!

Festival Update
As a result of the on-going health crises, we have decided to move our small-sided Festival from this May to the weekends of 1st/2nd and 8th/9th of August. The 11-a-side Festival planned for 8th/9th August has been postponed and the Club is currently looking at possible alternatives. We will contact each registered team and hope they can join us for these new dates. Any team who can’t make the new dates will receive a full refund. We will keep the new dates under constant review. All information on the Festival can be found here.
