Frequently Asked Questions for Neighbours of GSC Auldhouse

Who has taken on the facility?

The current Auldhouse facility has been taken on via a sixty-year lease by Giffnock Soccer Centre (GSC) from Hutchesons’ Grammar School FPs. GSC is Scotland’s largest community football club with current playing bases at Eastwood Park and Norwood Playing Fields on Dumbreck Rd. As part of this agreement, Hutchesons’ Grammar School will take over control of Norwood. Essentially a site swap.

What will you be using the facility for and what will be the impact on the neighbourhood?

We will be using the facility as a playing base for our football teams. Initially we will be using the four grass pitches and pavilion. Longer-term we intend on building two 3G pitches on the blaes pitches at the rear of the site away from housing, subject to securing a lease agreement and planning approval. The majority of use of the grass pitches will be at weekends with occasional use during weeknights during Summer months. Longer term we will utilise the 3G pitches as a training base.

The first organised league games are Saturday 13 August and will continue weekly after that with occasional midweek use.

What is the position with traffic and floodlights?

We are well-experienced in running facilities which minimise impact to our local communities. We have already held meetings, hosted by local Councillor Stephen Curran, with local residents and we are committed to holding similar meetings as the development progresses. We are working on site designs to accommodate parking within the facility to minimise any parking locally. Longer-term we are also looking at options to reduce traffic through the neighbouring estate. The only floodlights being planned at the site would be at the rear of the property on the existing blaes area if we progress with plans for the build. The use of the latest technology, directional lighting, will ensure minimum disruption to local homes and will be subject to local planning guidance.

We are a volunteer-run charity offering football for young people. Our members and guests to our facilities access our pitches in accordance with very strict protocols around how they behave. Our experience is that our well-run facilities offer very little issues for local people and in fact can be an asset to the local community.

How can GSC Auldhouse help me?

We are investing in the site to offer football for young (and older) neighbours who would like to get involved. We’d love to be able to offer the clubhouse for community events and meetings. In addition, longer-term we have a plan to establish the GSC Foundation, a charity aimed at promoting social inclusion in the local area. More detail on this to follow.

Anti-social behaviour on-site

As part of the community we will do everything we can to encourage responsible use of our facility. We have already had the local police visit the site and will continue to work with them to counter anti-social behaviour. We are determined that this facility will be an asset to local people and will work with them to make this a reality.
